What We Do

Supporting the Friarage Hospital and local community for over 65 years

Friends of the Friarage proactively support the best possible health care for every patient within the Friarage Hospital and residents of Hambleton & Richmondshire.

Thanks to fundraising activities, charitable donations and legacies, we purchase state of the art medical equipment, update the hospital environment and support the development of innovative services. We also provide smaller items, such as Christmas presents for patients who have to be in hospital over that period. Committed volunteers provide around 5,500 hours of service every year.

Everything that our supporters do helps to improve the care and well-being of patients, visitors and staff, above the standards that NHS funding alone allows.

What people say about us

  • "The new Friarage Surgical Centre is just jaw-droppingly wonderful, very well laid out and obviously everything is so clean and new. The team who looked after me were fantastic, it was such a personalised service, they were so slick and attentive - I didn’t feel like just a number in the system. I am so grateful to everyone who helped Friends of the Friarage to make this happen and of course the eye team for looking after me so well. The surgery was over with so quickly and then all I needed was to take a short cab ride back home which made such a big difference."
    Andrew, Eye Patient

  • "As soon as you say the Friarage then people get behind it - it's about giving back. We have a wonderful NHS service and we're lucky to be able to support it. It's hard work organising events, but not as hard as the doctors and nurses who work to keep us healthy. We're happy to support the Friarage as much as we can."
