Friarage receives state of the art ultrasound machine from Friends of the Friarage

Thanks to the Friends of the Friarage, patients suffering from disfiguring vascular malformations can have their birthmarks treated at the Friarage more safely and effectively.

Lead Consultant Tobian said, “Currently we see 20 to 30 new patients per month and most of the treatments are done at the Friarage, apart from children and patients needing intensive care.

We are extremely grateful to the Friends of the Friarage and to the many people who donate to them, this new machine will and already has made a huge difference to our patients.”

As well as providing better treatment for patients, the new machine has many benefits for hospital staff too. Tobian explained, “The machine’s larger screen also aids more accurate diagnosis, clearer decision making and enables better teaching and training for the hospital’s and other future surgeons.”

Friends of the Friarage Co-chairs, Tony Walters and Susan Watson commented that trustees had no hesitation in funding the £35,000 machine;

"We are committed to enhancing key local services here at the Friarage Hospital of which the Birthmark Service is one. We were absolutely delighted that Tobian was able to meet some of our volunteers whose support enables this to happen."
