Peter's Charity Swim Gets Underway!
Show your support for Peter as he takes on this epic challenge to raise funds for Friends of the Friarage!
Meet Peter, Commercial Director from AXIOM. A keen supporter of our charity, you might remember last summer he swam an amazing two miles across Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim to raise funds for Friends of the Friarage.
Well, this year he's back, but with an even bigger challenge! This year our charity celebrated 65 years and to mark this, Peter will do a 65 mile (104.6km or 4184 lengths!) 'virtual' swim of the North Yorkshire Coastline, from Redcar Beach to Bridlington Harbour! Starting in October, he will swim an average of 10km per week, ‘arriving’ in Bridlington just in time for Christmas!
Although this is a virtual swim of the coastline, this area means a lot to Peter, especially Bridlington where he spent many summers visiting his grandparents, fishing and in the sea - developing his lifelong passion for swimming!
Peter chooses to support us due to his close links with the Friarage - his wife has worked at the hospital for 20 years (and with the Trust for 33!) plus a number of his family have had cause to use its services over the years with great levels of care and support.
Peter’s swim will take place early mornings at either Northallerton Leisure Centre or Tees Active IB Leisure in Ingleby Barwick using SWIMTAG, a social swim training aid and monitoring system that tracks your progress in the pool and in open water. A huge thank you to SWIMTAG for their support in setting up Peter’s challenge and plotting his route along the coastline for us.
Please show your support for Peter by donating to his amazing challenge. Look out for our posters around the Friarage or head to https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/peters65mileswim to donate. Kickstarting the donations is Peter’s company, AXIOM who have pledged a very generous £200.00!
All donations from this challenge will go towards improving services at the Friarage, now and in the future. Thanks to fundraising activities, charitable donations and legacies, Friends of the Friarage purchase state of the art medical equipment, update the hospital environment and support the development of innovative services. We also provide smaller items, such as Christmas presents for patients who need to be in hospital over that period.
Everything that our supporters do helps to improve the care and well-being of patients, visitors and staff, above the standards that NHS funding alone allows. Thank you for your support. You’ve got this Peter - good luck!
