Northallerton Nurses League donate £500 to Eye Appeal

We were thrilled to receive a generous donation of £500 towards our Eye Appeal from Northallerton Nurses League. Members of the League, who are regular supporters of our charity, met at the Friarage Hospital recently to hand over the amount. Nurses League President, Eva Shuttleworth explained why the group chose to make this contribution:
 

"The Northallerton Nurses League is an association of Friarage Hospital registered nurses with approximately 260 members scattered throughout the world. We are pleased to support Friends of the Friarage with their ‘Eye Appeal’ to bring vitreo-retinal surgery to the Friarage Hospital. This will enable residents of Hambleton and Richmondshire to have their eye conditions treated nearer to home."

The Friends’ Eye Appeal was launched in February of this year and stands currently at just over £78,000 of our £200,000 target. We launched the appeal with the aim to bring vitreo-retinal eye surgery services to the Friarage Hospital Northallerton, as part of the new Surgical Hub which is under construction at the site. While this type of treatment is available for patients to have at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, this can often mean patients face lengthy, uncomfortable and expensive distances to travel. Friends of the Friarage exist to improve and enhance services at the Friarage, and improve patient well-being. We believe that every patient should be treated as close to home as possible.
